London 2012 Olympics and logistics
The Olympics will have a significant impact on the UK freight industry as operators work to meet London’s demands. One area in particular that will affect the logistics sector is the Olympic Route Network.
What is the Olympic Route Network?
The Olympic Route Network (ORN) is the series of roads around London and the UK that will link competition venues and key non-competition venues for athletes, officials and the media.
The Paralympic Games venues are located closer together and will form a smaller version of the ORN.
Where is the ORN?
The ORN will be grouped into four areas:
- Core ORN This will link central London venues to the Olympic Park and venues near the River Thames, such as the North Greenwich Arena and ExCeL
- Venue-specific ORN This will create links between all other competition venues both inside and outside London, and also between accommodation and international arrival points
- Training venues ORN This will link the training venues to the rest of the ORN
- Alternative routes ORN This will only be used should problems occur on one of the core or venue-specific routes
